Day 1: Imlil (1,740m) to Amsakrou – via Tizi n’Tamatert (2,279m)
Your trek begins in the mountain village of Imlil, often considered the gateway to the Toubkal region. The trail heads eastward, ascending steadily through juniper and pine forests to Tizi n’Tamatert (2,279m), a panoramic mountain pass offering sweeping views of the Imnan Valley on one side and the Imlil Valley on the other.
After a well-earned break, you descend gently toward the village of Tinghron, where lunch is served—typically a traditional tagine with fresh local ingredients. The path then contours the side of the valley, passing terraced fields and stone-built Berber hamlets. You eventually reach Amsakrou, a peaceful village nestled in the Imnan Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a local guesthouse.
Highlights: Panoramic views from Tizi n’Tamatert, traditional Berber lunch, overnight in an authentic mountain village.

Day 2: Amsakrou to Tizzian – via Tizi n’Ougrsioual (2,000m) and Tizi Oudid (2,200m)
After breakfast, you descend to cross the riverbed at the valley floor before beginning a moderate ascent to Tizi n’Ougrsioual (approx. 2,000m), a scenic pass with expansive views over the Imlil and Azzaden valleys. The trail winds through wild thyme and juniper bushes as you make your way down to the village of Aguersioual.
From there, the climb begins again to Tizi Oudid (2,200m), another pass that reveals the deep green beauty of the Azaden Valley. You'll enjoy lunch with a view, likely near the small Berber village of Matat, known for its picturesque setting and walnut groves.
The final leg of the day is a gentle descent into Tizzian, a quaint village in the Azaden Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a local guesthouse or family-run lodge.
Highlights: Beautiful passes with contrasting views, river crossings, traditional villages, arrival in the tranquil Azaden Valley.

Day 3: Tizzian to Imlil – via Tizi Mzik (2,489m) and Tizi Oussem
Today’s trek begins with a steady climb out of the Azaden Valley, passing through juniper forests and shepherd trails as you head toward the remote village of Tizi Oussem. This is a charming Berber village perched on the hillside, and it makes a lovely stop for lunch, often enjoyed on a terrace with panoramic views.
After lunch, you’ll begin the ascent to the highest pass of your trek, Tizi Mzik (2,489m). From the top, you’re treated to stunning views across the valleys and back toward the Toubkal Massif. The descent into Imlil is gradual and scenic, ending your journey back where it started.
